From the site of the grave of the First Prime Minister of Israel, Mr. David Ben Gurion, we will be able to view the Zin River and Wilderness of Zin where Moses & the children of Israel walked along the southern boundary of the Promised Land. (Numbers 20:1-13; 27; 14; 33; 34:3-4; 36) We will again meet with the Zin River on our descent from the Akrabim (Scorpion Heights) which is mentioned several times in the Bible with regard to the southern border of the Tribe of Judah and also because it is close to the Zin River. Continuing along the Dead Sea, we enjoy a stop at Masada, the fortress built by King Herod and site of the last Jewish resistance against the Romans in 73 AD. Ascending the area by cable car, visitors are able to survey the ruins of the fortifications, waterworks, synagogue, temples and palaces We continue our day’s adventure with a stop at The Monastery of St. George where Elijah hid from King Ahab and Jezebel (Kings 17:2-7) & Einot Tzukim, a beautiful recovered oasis (Ezekiel 47: 8-10) where fish and fauna grow in the arid desert. On this site now stands the golden Dome of the Rock (the third holiest shrine in all Islam) and the El-Aksa Mosque. A short walk takes us to stand on the original Southern Steps that Jesus walked as he entered the Temple area and which may have been one of the locations where pilgrims sang the Psalms of Ascent (Ps. 120-134).
